The lore and appeal associated with unusual jewellery and Zodiac gems and birthstones from our Jewellery Store is something I would like to take a close look at over the coming months, taking each Zodiac sign and month in turn. There’s been a long custom associated with assigning gems to birth and planetary influences, and whether you believe in this, it will tend to make a pleasant concept regarding giving birthday presents of jewellery like gold charmsincluding the chosen gemstones! Over the generations, from the Ancient Greeks and Romans, to the Indian system of Ayurveda, particular stones and gems were thought to reflect the nature of any person or indeed animals or plants born under the influence of a particular planet.
Therefore I will start with the month of December, and also the main sign, that is Sagittarius, the Archer. There are many stones which are suitable, chief among them being topaz, Tanzanite, zircon and turquoise. Some other stones include blue lace agate, malachite, amethyst and garnet. Tanzanite, as the name implies, only comes from Tanzania, and is a vivid blue, or sometimes green. It was discovered in 1967 and is extremely popular because of its rarity (1000 times rarer than diamonds!) and its beauty. It is recommended to wear as an anti-depressant gemstone because of its cheering energies.
Zircon certainly is the most ancient gem stone across the world, much older than diamonds as well as a comparable brightness. In past times this has been bought and sold just as diamonds. It is believed to promote credibility and also intelligence, and guide getting to sleep. This is not to be mistaken with Cubic Zirconia, it’s a natural gemstone, certainly not man-made.
