It wasn’t too long ago that a gardener would laugh at considering artificial grass. Fake grass was ugly stiff and unconvincing. However the development of synthetic grass has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years. With fans like Amanda Holden singing its praises and even featuring in the chelsea flower show. The main reason for the acceptance of artificial grass is the massive increase in quality .Todays astro turf contains a porous matting for fast drainage and keep their colour and pile for a decade.
So why are more and more people turning to artificial grass? For a start its minimal maintenance – no mowing or watering is required. The grass remains green whatever the weather. No weeding and very minimal maintenance means that fake grass is perfect for people with little time on their hands. Hot spells that leave many lawns shrivelled and yellow do not affect fake grass that stays lush and green. Its also very useful in shady gardens where natural grass will not grow. People are using plastic grass as a alternative to decking and for rooftop gardens and balconies.
Families and house conscious individuals increasingly turn to artificial lawns to prevent those oh so familiar muddy footprints in the winter months or after heavy rain. Football mad kids find the artificial surface hard wearing and soft. Artificial lawns are perfect for kids who can tear around all day without damaging the grass.
Most people use a professional company for installation but diy installation is entirely possible. The lawn is laid on to granite dust followed by a membrane then artificial grass is layed on top and then kiln dried sand is brushed into the top of the grass.
Artificial Grass is also great for sport surfaces. The nylon grass increases ball speeed initially but slows down over a period of time maintaining a consistant speed.With more fibre tips touching the ball surface the resistance decrease and the fibre helps slow the ball down. This is why artificial turf is popular both for dootball and tennis.
Artificial grass is also used by hunderds of golf clubs and putting greens. Renowned for realism, praticality and vibrancy artificial grass continues to increase in popularity and is a viable option for gardeners and business alike.
